It’s been a while…

Well … I have resurrected my blog. It’s been more than a while. The last two posts were written from somewhere in South America during my trip with Jess around the Latin American continent. After such a long hiatus in writing it’s hard to know where to start. Do I update the blog bit-by-bit, day-by-day until I reach 2011? … That seems overly pedantic.

Broad brushstrokes now people… here’s what’s changed since last we spoke:

  • I am a “journalist” (commas necessary) working for ABC News 24
  • I have a Masters in Development Studies (not too sure what this means)
  • I am enrolled in a Graduate Certificate in Documentary at AFTRS (ditto this)
  • I am a part-time tertiary media studies tutor (this year I’m teaching multi-platform journalism)
  • Jess and I have almost been together five years now (a fifth of my lifetime)
  • Jess is a journalist (no commas required) with BRW magazine
  • In Dec 2009 I attended the COP15 UN climate summit in Copenhagen as a youth delegate with the Australian Youth Climate Coalition
  • I have become a semi-decent snowboarder (“bombing down strawberries”)
  • I haven’t kept up with my Spanish,
  • I have switched to vegetarianism
  • We are moving to Marrickville in a week after living in Bondi for 18 months

I think I’m in a much better place than I was in London … spiritually. It’s hard to say and even harder to measure. But I’m happier now that I’m not working in advertising. Working in news is more fulfilling – and definitely more challenging. I enjoy tutoring a lot, and feel like I am finally required to use a good majority of my potential ability to do both jobs.

There is a lot I am thankful for in my life at the moment. Broad brushstrokes.
